Bond Cleaning Advice With BONUS Checklist

 

Leaving a tenancy can feel like an endless and daunting task, it’s the packing, arranging mail redirection and so much more including returning the keys to the agency, and then there’s the cleaning.

With everything else you have to do it can be easy to miss a few things. This is why we have taken the time to create the below checklist to help you in completing your bond clean. This list certainly isn’t exhaustive as every property is different but it is a good place to start and hopefully help you to not miss anything.

You should however contact your gas and electricity provider to notify them you have moved.

 

General tips

  • Make sure all personal items are removed from the property, the property is to be empty at hand over of keys.
  • In the case of properties with furniture included in the lease please make sure that all provided furnishings are professionally cleaned with receipts provided and that all furnishings remain at the property
  • This also includes all cookware/plates/cutlery etc that comes with the property to be washed/cleaned and put back inside cupboards or drawers.
  • Receipts for carpet cleaning and pet fumigation are to be provided.
  • All rent/accounts are to be paid up to date.
  • Dry clean first (dusting, sweeping and vacuuming) followed by a wet clean (mopping, wipes and sprays)
  • Keep your cleaning supplies in a carry tub or bucket

We have broken it up into outside, inside and then a few specific rooms. Using this list for guidance you will be able to get a really good start at cleaning before you vacate a property.

 

End of lease cleaning checklist: Exterior Cleaning Tips

  • Garage or carport swept clean and free of cobwebs, all personnel belongings removed. Flooring to be pressure cleaned if required with particular attend to visible oil stains.
  • Driveway, paths, and courtyard swept and free of weeds.
  • All sheds to be swept clean and cobweb free and no tenant items are left behind.
  • All eaves, guttering/downpipes and fencing to be cobweb free.
  • Gardens and lawns, mowed, edged and free of weeds. Shrubs to be pruned if required.
  • Artificial Lawns are to be kept clean meaning weed free and debris free. If you have pets, please ensure at all times to maintain cleanliness of the artificial lawn, this includes sanitizing. FYI ensure when vacating to include the artificial lawn be part of pet fumigation and sanitizing.
  • Pool, must be fully cleaned and if applicable receipt for service/cleaning is to be provided including cleaning the filter.
  • Reticulation/sprinklers are to be left in working order.
  • Remove dust or cobwebs from walls, window sills and eaves.
  • Remove any mess created by pets and repair any damage caused by pets.
  • Clear out the letter box.
  • Ensure outdoor lighting is working and cleaned.
  • Remove all rubbish, empty and wash out household bins.
  • Hose down the garage door and ensure it runs smoothly

 

Vacate clean checklist: Interior Cleaning Tips

You can hire a professional!
Many cleaning companies offer a full vacate clean as a service!
  • Air Conditioner — clean filters and ceiling vents (where accessible).
  • Carpets vacuumed and professionally cleaned (receipt to be handed into office).
  • Tiled floors are to be cleaned including grout (receipt to be handed into office ifprofessionally cleaned)
  • All other flooring is to be cleaned and vacuumed and mopped where applicable.
  • Ceiling fans dust and wipe.
  • Cobwebs — removed from all internal spaces
  • Doors and frames — dust and wipe clean free of grubby marks.
  • Power sockets and light switches — dust and wipe clean.
  • Light fittings – dust and wipe clean all globes to be working.
  • Skirting boards including architraves — dust and wipe clean
  • Walls – Free of grubby marks
  • Windows and frames — clean glass inside and out, dust and clean sills. Be careful not to use window cleaning solution on tinted windows.
  • Window and sliding door tracks need to be dirt free this is easiest with a vacuum cleaner.
  • Fly screens gently brush off dust with a soft brush.
  • Mirrors to be cleaned.
  • Blinds and curtains are to be cleaned and washed. This is best done professionally.
  • All robes shelving, light fittings, and light switches are to be clean and mark free.
  • Ceilings and cornices – free of fly marks and cobwebs.
  • Smoke alarms – free of dust and cobwebs.

 

Vacate clean checklist: Kitchen

  • Drawers, cupboards and pantry – clean and wipe both inside and out.
  • Extractor fans – clean blades and exhaust filter covers and degrease.
  • Sink, and bench top – wiped clean and remove any soap residue and no water marks.
  • Stove – clean burners grill, and drip trays, inside oven, range hood, general body of stove please ensure you clean under all oven racks and stove racks and burners.
  • The taps are clean and polished.

 

Vacate clean checklist: Bathrooms

Be sure when using chemicals you do so in a safe way and don’t mix substances you aren’t sure of.
  • Shower/bath/tiling – clean wall tiles, screen, shower recess and bathtub.
  • Drawers and cabinets – vacuum and wipe clean.
  • Sink – clean and remove any stains or soap residue.
  • Taps – clean and polish.
  • Toilet – clean thoroughly inside and out (taking off the seat included.)
  • Mirror cleaned.

 

Vacate clean checklist: Laundry

  • Drawers, cabinets and shelving – clean and wipe down.
  • Sinks/basin – clean and remove any stains, and soap residue.
  • Taps – clean and polish

 

Vacate clean checklist: Bedrooms

  • Clean and empty wardrobes, cupboards, shelving and drawers
  • Check all globes are working – clean light fittings and switches
  • Wipe clean all window ledges, architraves, skirting boards, picture rails and doors
  • Clean windows, sliding doors and fly screens inside and out
  • Wipe down air conditioner, clean vents, and wash and dry the filter
  • Remove dust and cobwebs throughout
  • Clean ceiling fan blades and light
  • Clear door and window tracks
  • Clean all blinds
  • Wash or dry-clean curtains and re-hang
  • Wipe over all switches, door hardware and surrounds
